Hi everyone,
Just a quick one to inform you that a new website on long-distance hiking trail has just been launched : www.hikeonearth.com. It's currently under beta testing but the list of trails is already interesting. The website is 100 % free and independent. And uers can :
-find practical information on each trail
-meet other hikers with the same plans
-connect with trail veterans to get advice and tips on a particular trail
-share their pictures with the community
-add new trails and trail information
Hope this is useful!
Looks kinda cool. Browsed around a bit. It will be nice when folks begin contributing.

Yes I totally agree the scale and scope of this website will depend on users' contributions as anyone can add their own hikes and trail-specific information.
Seems buggy! For instance, when I tried to set the slider to show trips ranging from 3 to 4 days, I couldn't do it. It kept resetting my "from" number back to 1, and even when I was really careful, I couldn't get the "to" number to show 4 (although I could select 3 or 5). I really don't think a slider, especially one so finicky, is the best tool to use for this.
Also, when I chose hikes in the USA and hit "Nearby" (note I live in Washington state), it reverted to the entire world and the sample hikes it came up with were in Canada, Arizona, Hawaii, and 2 in Iceland.
