On the night of Nov 8 we dispersed camped in Greenwater Valley. The cold front confirmed that we should head low and we still had a sand dune to experience. Nov 9-10: A quick sight seeing stop at Badwater, we we off backpacking into the Ibex Dunes for the night. Sunsets and sunrises at dunes are a special experience. I take too many Dune pics!!!

Not since the Sierras had we done a scramble so we chose one of the most aesthetic desert classics. The Class 3 West Face of Eagle Mountain 3806'. Standard route goes up the left most of the west face gullies. Starting there we found better rock and scrambling on the rib to its climber's right taking it to the ridgecrest. A wide use trail avoids class 5 pinnacles on the crest and leads to the finish with the short knifeedge ridge to the summit. Fantastic!

Time to take Tommy to a bus in Vegas and a sad farewell for a bit. i sure hope I showed him the spectacular diversity of Death Valley National Park.

Ibex Dunes and Eagle ate some of the best places to hike in this area. I think Ibex is the best set of dunes in Death Valley. up.gif

And the strong wind is great for erasing any footprints others have left on the dunes. Nice pix of Eagle!
