It appears that some of the NPS campgrounds near the western closure of highway 20 are available for no-fee use throughout the winter and I like that. What about "backcountry" camping along the highway beyond the gate? If I were to walk/snowshoe up the road is there a restriction on my pitching a tent along -- and, specifically, on -- the highway? I assume the building of a fire ring in a turnout is frowned upon by the man, understandably so.
