A bit far afield from local hiking, but I wanted to share this National Geo article just received from a former NOAA co-worker. The photos and videos are amazing. The Big Meltdown In the early 90's I was a crew member on 2 NOAA Antarctic marine ecosystem surveys in the same general area (mostly around the South Shetlands). Having been there, this report feels as immediate to me as any home turf stewardship issue. The dependence of all the life forms down there on cold and ice is even more striking than the Arctic. Hope this is acceptable to post since southern hemisphere pics are fair game in the TR's. biggrin.gif
