Didn't want to miss the last clear weather of 2018, decided on a quick trip out to Lake Janus. This was my first ever mid-winter solo ski trip. Nothing exciting, just touring on the Smith Brook road and a short section of the PCT to the lake. Since I was late leaving Seattle, I had just enough time to ski half way up Jove. Had a fun skiing through trees with a headlamp (a trick is to use a bright one, mine is ~500 lumen) back to my camp. The trail was still easy to follow all the way. There were two potential avy slopes, but they were mostly crust with some new snow. Missed the sunset, but the stars were gorgeous. Had to hurry home on the 1st, about three hours back to the car.
