Ya, that might be taking bravery to a level beyond reason and crossing over to stupidity. Especially since it looks like they winched him out eventually, thus the landing was not even necessary?

I think the rescue of the German PCT hiker "City Girl" by Snohomish County Sheriff helicopter was equally as heroic. If memory serves the Snohomish pilot offloaded his co pilot who built a little log ramp for one skid to level the LZ for the pilot. This in a one shot do or die situation with low fuel state and incoming weather .
Helicopter pilots rock!

This story reminded me of the time many years ago that I met mountain rescue pilot Jim Davies at a dinner party in Banff. Jim's skill with a helicopter was legendary, and instrumental in getting heli-skiing started in Canada, with Hans Gmoser. I recall Jim saying that he was one of the few from his pilot class who was still alive. A synopsis of his flying career is here: Highline Magazine
Also mentioned here, beginning on pg 92:
Guardians of the Peaks: Mountain Rescue in the Canadian Rockies
There's also an interview of Jim in the Whyte Foundation's Fireside Chat series. Unfortunately it's not a great interview, but if you can stick with it, there are a few good stories in there.
An interesting detail from the early days of heli-rescue in Banff: due to the type of helicopter they had available, the rescuer and injured party couldn't be winched into the helo: the rescuer had to be flown to the site in a sling, dangling from the chopper, and then once the injured person was secured, they both had to be flown to safety the same way. Yipes!

Thanks for the link. I binge-watched season one while down with some bug over the weekend. Air Zermatt certainly has its act together, in every respect.
