Reed and I climbed Silver Peak on Wednesday morning. We decided to go in via Silver Fir at Summit Central, and use the Nordic ski trail system to access Olallie Meadows and Silver's North Bowl. We were skinning up Silver Fir by 6:20 am, as we both had to be back to Seattle in the afternoon.

It took us a couple hours to reach Olallie Meadows. It was a very blustery morning and we were worried about how the wind may have affected avalanche danger on steeper terrain. We continued skinning back into the bowl north of Silver's summit. A pretty good place in winter with a lot of awesome skiing! The snow was really wind affected on all aspects for us, so the skiing was going to be really variable.

We skinned up to a small notch on Silver's NW Ridge and stashed our skis in a small thicket of trees. The wind was howling.

We made our way along the ridge for a hundred yards, being wary of cornices, then dropped onto the west side to traverse beneath the false summit. There were a few sections of icy snow with considerable runout. Moderate butt puckering here, we were glad we brought our crampons or we probably would not have topped out. We were on top around 10:45. Wind chill had it feeling arctic up there.

We were on the summit for maybe 4 minutes before heading down and returning to our skis. Ripping skins and putting my board together in the strongest winds of the day was pretty intense. We quickly strapped in and skied down off the ridge to escape the brutal wind chill. The ski down the bowl back to Olallie Meadows was fun although the snow wasn't amazing.

From the Meadows, we cruised down the nordic trail to its low-point below Olallie Mountain (I think this peak might also be referred to as Radio Hill or something?) then skinned back up to the top of Silver Fir, and skied down to the car. Fun before-work trip!

Nice -- that's a classic. FWIW: "Radio Mountain" is used by Silas and others for the 4440 ft high knob -- The radio facility on the north end is common high point , skining ENE from there through clearcuts that are getting too thick at this point.

Great video, Fletcher. Lots of panorama views, location references (Annette Lake, etc), and action shots. Nice background music. ~z

That north bowl sure looks easier with snow cover . Lots of gigantic rocks to pick through . There is also a rock structure minus the roof in the middle of it .
