Hey, if you're going to miss Heather "Anish" Anderson's talk tonight at the Mountaineers, here's the next best thing! We had her on KUOW's The Record yesterday. Her piece is at the top of this post. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing it. https://kuow.org/stories/heather-anderson-s-thirst-to-be-the-best
It was nice to finally see Heather in person yesterday, even if it was from the back of a very crowded room. Her passion for hiking is inspiring. Since it developed in a flash (or I got that impression anyway from the Grand Canyon story) when she was already a young woman, I couldn't help but wonder how the timing of an initial experience (i.e. what stage in life you're in when introduced to it) might affect the power with which it grips you. Too early, and perhaps it's stale by the time you'd otherwise have been receptive to the newness of it? Anyway, I liked her answer to the concern that by moving so quickly she misses out on the experience. If you can't see the scenery while moving through it at 2.8 mph, you're doing something wrong!
