Anyone know the fire name? This area has not burned in 20+ years.

Anyone have a link to a website (I know it's out there) that shows all current wildfires on a high-res topo? Anyone have the link to a similar map that was posted last year with an overlay of all the fires of the past 20yrs and their color-coordinated clickable links? Thanks!

googlemaps is showing this exact area as burnt. Sure you're not looking at data from a previous year?

When the map opens it displays a GIS layer showing past fires going back to the year 2000.

We should be naming them after oil and gas companies.

The fire on the north side of Saul was reported a week or so ago. I heard FS aircraft on my scanner doing fire surveys for the Wenatchee ranger district refer to the Airplane Lake fire. I'm assuming that's the fire currently burning because it is close to the lake.

I have been producing interactive GIS wildland fire maps for 10+ years. Each time you open themap you see the most recent data. To get the most benefit from the map please read the links in the upper left corner. For the USA map you can turn on an overlay layer that shows older fires going back to 2000. USA: https://mappingsupport.com/p2/gissurfer.php?center=41.246274,-110.698242&zoom=5&basemap=USA_basemap&overlay=VIIRS_7_day,MODIS_7_day&data=https://mappingsupport.com/p2/special_maps/disaster/USA_wildland_fire.txt Canada: https://mappingsupport.com/p2/gissurfer.php?center=55.640228,-110.742187&zoom=5&basemap=Canada_Toporama&overlay=VIIRS_7_day,MODIS_7_day,CA_fire_perimeter,CA_active_fires&txtfile=https://mappingsupport.com/p2/special_maps/disaster/Canada_wildland_fire.txt

Airplane Lake, no noticeable smoke last week or this week around Lake Wenatchee. Saw a chopper heading back to the LW airfield after a survey this morning.

I saw a bit of smoke from that fire while climbing Glacier Peak last weekend, I think it was started by lightning from some storms in the area the week before. A ranger we ran into said it was burning among some boulders so they were going to keep an eye on it and were hopeful it would go out on its own.

Would that be the "Historic Perimeters" layer? I chose that and once I zoomed in on the map I can see the perimeters of old fires. I also chose "Wildland Fire Name", but I'm not seeing anything. Oops. I think I might have figured it out. I had to make the "Wildland Fire Name" the number 1 overlay. Historic perimeters is number 2. Then when I click on a fire area, I get a page with the fire name and all the information about it. It looks like the hot pink color is for 2022. I can see most of last years fires, but I'm not seeing the Bolt Creek Fire. Am I just not patient enough? Am I doing that correctly? I'll be spending some time reading those map links, and legends. Great map.

Yes, the 'historic" layer shows the fires back to 2000. If that overlay is 'on top' (i.e. highest number in front of the overlay name) then that layer is clickable. If multiple overlays are 'on' then only the highest numbered overlay is clickable. No idea why the Bolt Creek fire does not show up. More good info in the "Map tips". Thank you for the kind words.
