Went up the road trail past the Haystack Basin turnoff. On the way up we saw a large DNR crew coming down on ATVs. All of the windfalls and obstacles have been cleared out to the Haystack Basin junction and up toward Si. Saw less than a dozen people all polite and moving aside as we did. Snow starts in earnest a switchback or so below the junction but the AT s had cleared out somewhat muddy ruts. Beyond the junction the snow gets deeper and traction would be useful to climb Tenerife. Started raining on way to parking lot. Lot closes at 8pm. 9.2 mi at 3200’ gain tired after 2 mo sheltering and local trails

Search and Rescue quad units have been out in the Middle Fork valley recently too. They're checking out what's accessible and doing some clearing too. They've gotten up to Lipsy Lake on the Taylor and the Hardscrabble trailhead up the main Middle Fork road.
Sure was nice to have all the blowdown cleared! Much easier! Still a couple feet of snow up high, but the tread is melting fast, snow was soft up to the pass The last mile or so was fairly hard in the trees. Boots would have been nice.
