Headed west on Saturday to scratch an itch for green forests and minimal snow. I've been curious about this one for awhile, despite the removal of the (replica) lookout being removed years ago due to vandalism. We weren't sure what the conditions would be like so we hauled snowshoes. They ended up being training weight - the trail is snow free, save for a couple patches just underneath the lookout platform that are no problem at all.
Hung out underneath the platform for an hour eating lunch and watching showers come and go. Headed over to North Point Lookout afterward before retracing our steps back down the lush green forest.
Heard a grouse, saw a bunny and a banana slug. First wildflowers (wood violets) are starting to pop out at the beginning of the trail. Sol Duc River was gorgeous.
Always a good day in the Olympics
I'm a clueless schmuck about the OP. What old road is that last photo!
