While not native to the area it's not that uncommon to see palm trees used for landscaping around here. In particular there are a clump of them right along Richmond Beach Rd, near the little bowling alley, that I've walked right past dozens of times over the years. I don't ever recall seeing any fruit on the trees. I did today. Looked sorta like tiny grapes, very dark purple, almost black.
Looking at wiki there are a variety of fruits produced by various types of palms. Just surprising I've never noticed that before.
I grew up in SC and watched the squirrels get "drunk" on the fruit from palmettos (the state tree) after it got a bit fermented later in spring. They would fall out of the trees and roll around on the ground like drunk people might do.
