Hi All,

I have a long planned trip with friends coming up this Friday Aug 2-5 and end up having an injury that prevents me from carrying my pack.  Is there anyone out there who wants to carry a pack for 4 miles up the Killian Creek trail at Mt. Adams on Friday and come back to bring it out  on Monday?  I will pay or trade and will be forever grateful!  Short walk, nice group of people...

--------------
Cheers!

Why not ask your trail buddies to split part of your load?   Here's another idea: maybe check with these guys about a "rental": https://northwestpackgoats.com/ If you're hiking in a area where stock isn't allowed, you can explain it's a "service animal". ykm.gif

Who knows, maybe this odd request will inspire someone to start a new PNW biz, similar to the Himalayan sherpa outfitters: Rent-a-Grunt.   But even Sherpas expect to stay in camp and get fed, plus paid, not leave and come back.  huh.gif

Thanks for your response.  Sherpas help on really long trips.  This is only 4 miles and one drop off rather than a new spot every day!  I am offering to pay and I figure there is someone out there who wouldn't mind a day hike, twice.

Well, on the more serious side,  I was serious re splitting your gear/chow among your friends, with perhaps some ultralite gear substituted for your regular stuff.  You still have time to shop, and putting $$ toward new gear would make more sense than paying someone for their gas and time.

The last backpacking trip I did was the first in a very long time and I was worried about over-taxing myself.  I ditched my non-ultralite tent for a bivvy sack, which helped a lot. Bought a "squeeze sac" water filtration system.  I should have gotten a lighter pack and stove, but managed.  There are lots of posts here in the gear section re tarping and tenting scenarios, ultra-lite packs, even ideas for lite (freeze-dried) chow.  Not knowing the nature of your injury (and I'm not asking), it's hard to comment further.  But if it's a back problem and you can't even carry a sleeping bag plus a few clothing items in a day pack for 4 miles, maybe you shouldn't go. ??  Just sayin'.
