Spent Friday night at Talapus lk. Snow starts when you get to the level area right before the bridge. Wet and consolidated but a little post holing was had. The owls were calling. One big bare camp on the north side beside the trail.

Thanks for the report. So these parking lots (Talapus, Mason, etc) are snow free?

Yes. And the rush is on. Spent the night a Mason lake last night. Went up the old trail up the creek. At the heawall near the top I lost the trail and tracks in deep consolidated snow. Found it again about 100 ft up. Snowed about 3 inches overnight and it was a mild blizzard on the way out. Took the main trail out and there was a lot of step kicking on the side hill up to the ridge where you start back down. Met about two dozen people on their way up day hiking. There were a few dry patches at the lake in the camping spots. The ground squirrels harrassed me all night.
