Do you use hiking cue sheets?
Especially in urban or tricky hikes?
I'm working on an urban hike description (in the W, but not NW) and am wondering what you look for if you did something like that?
There's always the old school/informal 'turn left at the big tree' descriptive style. Or the bike cue sheet style 0.12 mi L Smith Tr.
Or there's the fully modern 'stare at your phone and make the blue dot stay on the red line' technique.
Any favorites formats or tools you like? Do you like laconic or loquacious--or both, but at different times?
A combination! For urban areas (neighborhood routes or city parks), a narrative and mileage is cool - "walk .5 miles and turn left after the 3rd bridge and note the remains of a weir, built in 1927 for the town's water source."
For walks in a setting with few distinct landmarks, definitely mileage!
You could do an app, and a lot of people are into that, but as pointed out, it defeats the purpose of taking a walk. But then again, it depends on what your goal is and what you want people to get out of it. Just excercise? Or something else?
On the other hand (this is an octopus) where would people get the paper cue sheets, and what becomes of them when a user is finished with theirs? An app is always there (well sorta), and accessible any time, and no waste afterwards (with the exception of portions of your brain )

Paper is dead for this kind of thing. Even Road Scholars tour groups (formerly Elder Hostel) all the silverbacks are taking photos and reading info off off devices.
