My daughter and I just spent a wonderful 2 week vacation in Peru centered around Cusco and the Sacred Valley and ending with the 4 day trek of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Between the two of us we shot about 3,000 photos. We had a splendid time the week before the trek and lucked out with our trekking partners. Cassie and I were the only two carrying our own stuff, the others used personal porters. Packing was easy since food was provided throughout the day and we shared a 4 person tent, always set up when we arrived at camp. It will take some time to go through all the material where I'll do more extensive posts here (if there's interest) and on my blog but thought I'd share some snippets from the trek. EDIT: Link to blog post and video

We did the trip two years ago. Actually preferred the ruins along the way to MP although it is amazing. Liked it so much went to Columbia this year met great people in a much less touristy area. Love South America but wish our Spanish was better.

Congrats and nice pics! up.gif

This has been on my list since I was in 5th grade, when I did a class report on the Incas. Someday...

like many others here i did this 40 years ago sans guide as it was not a requirement and we got seriously lost twice (not that seriously) .... it was the highlight of 7 months of wandering from Seattle to Bolivia...thanks for the spectacular photos and write up.We just spent 5 weeks in northern Peru and a little bit of Ecuador, saw exactly 3 gringos the first month of being astonished again at the non stop post card view that the highlands are ....

I see you got a chance to climb Huayna Picchu too. That was definitely a highlight for me. I also appreciated that tourists are kept out of the grassy squares so even though there are a lot of people there the photos don't show it.
