Climbed Silver Star a few years back in poor weather w/ no views, so when Neil asked if I was interested in joining him on Saturday with a perfect forecast I couldn't resist. The two of us met in the Silver Star Creek pullout at 6:30 and were quickly under way. We stayed east of the creek and was able to find a climbers path although it quickly disappeared under snow around 4,500'.

After a couple miles the route opens up in a basin Just above 5,000'. We chose to go left around some cliff bands, but looks like the right side may go as well. Put snowshoes on here as the sun was beginning to soften the snow a bit.

After climbing out of the basin we made a ascending traverse to a flat area a couple thousand feet below the sumnit. Took a good rest here, and switched over to crampons for the climb up the glacier.

We made quick work up to the saddle as snow conditions were near perfect.

The summit block was a bit more spicy than usual with plenty of snow and ice covering the rocks. A team after us laid protection & belayed party members the last 20 feet.

After a celebration beer at the saddle we reluctantly headed down. Was able to get a good 1,500' glissade down from the saddle. We had some postholing fun heading back down the boulder field as the snow was mashed potatoes at this point. Reached the cars at 3:30 and raced for pizza and beer in Winthrop. 9 miles, 5,400' gained, 9 hours. Another great day in the mountains!!!

I envy the glissade down. We didn't get that coming over Burgundy Col. Congrats on a classic NW summit.
