We just spent three nights in there. It is a nearly 6 hour drive up from the Columbia Gorge area. Camps were Five Mile Island, Martin Creek, and Happy Four. We made it about one mile above Elk Lake, which is as far as our seriously out-of-shape bodies would take us this trip. Workin' on that. We were told snow started at about the rope ladder. Trail has been maintained through the lower valley, and only a few logs down as far as we went. There is one bad one right before Martin Creek but it oddly just takes out the corner of a switchback before dropping own to the creek, so there is a temporary reroute straight down. My full report is at http://deanmyerson.org/hoh-2019, a few pics here

Forgot to mention that there were already some mosquitoes out. Not a lot by any means, but I was surprised that there would be any biting mosquitoes in mid-May. Of course it was a hot weekend, with temps probably reaching 80 the first day. I guess it's time to put the Thermacell in the pack.
