I've wanted to check this one out for awhile but never bad enough to sacrifice a weekend day for it. So midweek / after work it was. Since this one is on Snoqualmie Forest / Campbell Forest land, you'll need a permit ($10). Parked at the #10 gate just before 7pm. The trailhead is directly across the road from the gate and is marked by two old signposts.
We were immediately surrounded by lots and lots of green. We found a few old Weyerhaeuser signs along the way. We found the old log bridge at Ten Creek - it's pretty overgrown and the posts/rope are no longer attached for the handrail. The log itself was slicker than snot, so we took our time carefully maneuvering from one remnant of chicken wire to the next.
After crossing the creek, the trail became quite overgrown. We were able to find our way, but got soaked by the wet brush. We eventually emerged from the woods at the old gravel pit, where we took a left and then a right before regaining the trail.
A benevolent soul recently brushed out the trail from this point onward - thank you, whoever you are. The trail is easy to follow but narrow and crumbly at times.
The trail disappeared shortly after the last switchback, so we just bushwhacked to the viewpoint from there. A swarm of hungry skeeters greeted us at the ledge, so we didn't linger for too long.
On our way back down, we caught glimpses of a beautiful fiery sunset to the west. We retraced our steps back down to the car, arriving around 10pm.
On the drive out, we encountered lots of cars parked along the road, along with two different bonfires and one smaller campfire. Another great night in the hills up.gif
