On Sunday Gary, John, and I headed over Chinook Pass for a hike up Mt. Aix. Pea soup fog at the pass then just a high overcast. Eight cars at the trailhead though we only passed four groups and one guy who came later passed us. The trail is in good shape. A number of trees down in the first few miles but none were a problem to get over. One couple camped near the 4 mile marker. We met them near their camp as they were coming down from the summit. There is a snow patch in the usual spot where we turned east towards Aix. It was pretty small already. That was it for snow on the trail. Under the summit we took the short cut scramble route. A short 1/8th of a mile gaining 300'. We had the summit to ourselves for just over an hour. No views of Rainier or Adams but all the closer peaks were in sight. We descended the north side on the old trail and followed it over the ridge and back to our route coming in. There is still a big snow patch on the north side but one can glissade it or go around. A fun trip at 11.7 miles with 4500' of gain. Traffic was lighter going home than on most non holiday Sundays. My full trip report with 42 photos is at: Mt. Aix Report & Photos Here are a few photos:

This proves you didn't make the summit -- check out the sun shadows! apologies to moon hoax believers, but you know you're crazy, right?

We were so clueless about it that we were limited to debating whether it was the letter O or the number 0. confused.gif Here it is in context (ridge in middle distance, just right of closer ridge high point):
