The Tenas Creek Road quietly re-opened last year and survived the winter without any additional road damage. The last few miles are a little brushy, but not too bad. The fisherman's trail was less rough than I thought it would be. The first half mile is overgrown with some hidden ankle eating holes - watch your step. After that, it's another mile or so of relatively pleasant forest walking - some steep - before breaking out into an open meadow. At the end of the meadow and just before the outflow boulder field, we headed right on a faint bootpath up to a rocky gully. Boulder Lake was quite a treat for the eyes once we topped out of the gully. Yes, the water really is that blue. Hung out at the lake for over two hours before doing the whole thing in reverse. Beautiful day with minimal people up.gif

Wonderful photography, as usual! And great timing for this report, as I am heading up there later this week. Thanks for the trail descriptions. Any chance you went up to "Pear" Lake above Boulder?

Did ya checkout Pear? So you can’t drive to the trail head?

I've walked around that entire lake and can attest that it is indeed bouldery.

Yes you can drive to the end of the road. Didn't make it up to Pear this time.

Update as I was up there on Sunday 7/28. Someone has cleaned the brush & small blowdowns up to the Wilderness boundary which makes it a fairly easy stroll, if steep in places. The road is still mildly brushy but I've been on worse. Final push up to the lake is steep and, what do you know, bouldery. Not much of a trail but follow what there is, head to the right before the outflow & pick your way up the rocks. Left the trailhead at 11, took about 90 minutes up. We had the lake to ourselves for about 45 minutes, and then another 90 minutes back down. Met one group heading up about a mile from the trailhead. Beautiful, unspoiled and not crowded. Next time I'll bring a fishing pole!

Awesome that they are finally repairing the access roads! That lake is frigidly cold, so when fly fishing, the fish are very lively and difficult to hook. I didn’t make it to Pair either, hopefully next time.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
