Had a great day hike to the crowded Gothic Basin & Foggy Pass. 12ish Mile RT 3400ft Elevation gain with a netgain of 3700ft.
Foggy pass was kind of a visual let down but being my first time in Gothic Basin I was impressed with it (the basin and lakes not the pass). It would be a nice little over nighter during the week out of season but I'd personally be too worried about the amount of break ins the Mountain loop highway sees to do an over night trip a long it.
Foggy pass has a cool little flat spot big enough for 1 tent but the mountain views aren't the most inspiring from that pass. I would actually prefer to deny the solitude in order to camp near the lake rather than have solitude up at the mediocre pass.
I took the North side skree scramble to foggy pass. The snowfield looked like it was hollowed out gnarly and moat heaven. It was a very easy scramble though and the boulders were locked in place really good.
Really cool shot.
This is one of my favorites, I've been going up there for 20 years or more. Never have overnighted up there though. This one is near the forefront of hikes that's been getting loved to death in recent years.
Also that's crazy how melted out it is. I've seen Foggy Lake still partially frozen in September, and Gothic Peak is usually still holding some snow throughout the summer as well.
