Anyone know what search and rescue was up to today on Rainier? They were in the Glacier Island area. I was watching through binoculars from the top of pyramid peak but couldn’t tell what they were doing. Didn’t look like a rescue. The helicopter dropped a couple of people (maybe more) off on a snow slope just below some rocks. They weren’t in a litter but were attached to a rope below the helicopter. The helicopter then landed on a snowfield below them. They were there for at least 30-45 minutes. Looked like they were digging but was hard to tell.

Article in the Seattle Times said there was a recovery yesterday. No exact location but mention a 6500ish peak

Opposite side of the mtn from the fatality above Owyhigh Lks. NPS might be removing "attractive nuisance" aircraft debris from the S. Tahoma Glacier basin. (objects have been melting out of the ice over the years...….from the C-46 Commando crash in December 1946.)
