This was one of my high-camp site for star-photo-when-not-full-moon for a few years. The man-made bridge is half-out but easily passable on a natural one. There was only a single mosquito at the TH on this cool Wed. The hike is a nice 5k' trail up to the Crater mtn LO site #2. We hauled water from the last lake below for the 1st night, but there was a few snow patches left on the ridge.

The forests seemed greener than usual, I guess July's been cooler and moister this year. The upper slopes were filling up with little alpine flowers.
Many NC peaks are not far:
Crater and Jack summits blocked the direct sunset, still nice views:
The stars were bright, but hard to get away from light pollution:

Was pretty cold Wed night, but kept mosquitoes away. Found a thin ice layer on the lake surface immediately below Jerry Gl.
Jerry lakes are beautiful alpine lakes surrounded by larch trees, I may have to revisit them in late Fall:
Much warmer 2nd night with mosquitoes:
Really enjoyed the morning hike out:
We saved the LO site #1 for a future trip. More pics here.

Great work there Kenji. Thats a beautiful seldom visited area. You're pics capture it wonderfully.

Kenji, your pictures are the BEST! Wow!!! What an exquisite camp spot on the ridge near East Crater lookout site. We enjoyed it too. Sadly, the improved new bridge across Canyon Creek didn't last long. Here is the stairway on the south end in early June 2018. https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8027179&highlight=crater+mt+mtn+mountain#&pid=41534149305
