A fun addendum to my post--an NPS staff person got a 3D scan of the biggest bear (probably) at the Brooks River. (I think they were actually doing an archaeology project but thought, hey, why don't we try this...the bear had to be out of the water and still for 16 seconds). The estimate is 1408 lbs. The bears at Katmai get very, very big.

That is a big bear! Would be co to see, but then i’m kinda glad they’re not around here.
