Fourteen410 has a lovely trail report with pictures in Trip Reports and has pictures of gentians (and a lot of other great photos....) My question...where can my wife and I go to see gentians besides Palisades lakes at MRNP? Any help appreciated.... cool.gif

Gentians are just coming out now. They can be found in any moist and rather flat meadow in the subalpine at Mt. Rainier NP. Probably even Reflection Lakes, although that is a bit low; but elsewise probably in Edith Creek, but certainly in some areas of Indian Henry's and Mowich Lake/Spray Park. I did see some day before yesterday around 6000-6500' in a flattish, moist meadow off trail. You could find some ideas in the WNPS plant lists - the family is Gentianaceae: https://www.wnps.org/plant-lists/county?Pierce

The native gentian can be seen in more or less all high elevation meadows in the Washington Cascades where moisture remains into late August. It is more of a question as to where you could go this time of year and not see gentians!

As of last weekend, there were a couple of really nice clumps of them growing right along side the Pinnacle Saddle Trail at MRNP, just a couple hundred yards up from the trailhead (before you get to the first switchback).

It occurred to me that my comment above was not very helpful. The Consortium of Northwest Herbaria has an interactive map showing all the places our native alpine gentian, Gentiana calycosa, has been documented: www.pnwherbaria.org/data/results.php?DisplayAs=WebPage&ExcludeCultivated=Y&GroupBy=ungrouped&SortBy=Year&SortOrder=DESC&SearchAllHerbaria=Y&QueryCount=1&IncludeSynonyms1=Y&Genus1=gentiana&Species1=calycosa&State1=WA&Zoom=4&Lat=55&Lng=-135&PolygonCount=0 Good luck!

Just hiked Snoqualmie to Stevens on the PCT, there were gentians popping out everywhere near streams, lakes, and in wet meadows.

Subliminal, in an unnoticeable way

I can confirm that as of yesterday, these were still there.

Sunrise, on the north side of Rainier, is probably is the easiest way to see gentians right now. I've hiked the trails up there on crutches a fair number of times--and plan to crutch again up there soon! https://www.flickr.com/search/?user_id=28435100%40N00&sort=date-taken-desc&text=gentians&view_all=1
