This climb has become one of my favorites and I think I will try and make it an annual trip from now on every late summer/fall. It's 5100 feet of gain in 4 miles or so. I timed myself last year and got 3:45 car to summit, made some progress and put in a time of 3:23 this year.
It's a good climb to just grind away uphill and get in some fun 3rd class scrambling to a spire like summit. The clouds were rolling in and out up high. I guess everyone had plans on Labor day because I was the only one on the summit and didn't see anyone else besides passing 3 people on the trail and then back at the lake on the way out. I won't go into too much detail about the route as there are other TR's that explain it very well. *Involves some bushwacking.
Ascend the grassy ledges on the right to attain the ridge. Anderson, where I was the weekend before. From where I came. Not as intimadating as it looks. Ascend here once the ridge is reached. Clouds engulfing the summit views. On the way down to the lake. Gorgeous Lake of the Angels.

Love those moody Olympic Mountain views! Stone is a great peak. I should probably head back up there again one of these days.

Good pictures Jason; that one is definitely a fun scramble (I've gone about once every two years now too). I'm surprised you didn't see a lot more people at the lake. You should check out the other peaks in that general vicinity too (Mt. Lena, Skokomish, Bretherton, Henderson, Gladys). Thanks for posting the TR.

Great report. We just did this yesterday and traversed over the ridge to Skokomish. The last little climb on Stone was a beauty. Can't say the same about Skokomish; I'll never go back there. It was Choss City, population: 3.
