The first day of October was a spectacular day for driving over Highway 20.
Steam was rising from the recently melted snow, and it still covered the heavily laden trees. We stopped for a few pictures at Diablo Lake.

We arrived at the Cutthroat Trailhead at noon, along with several carloads of other hikers and their dogs. There was snow alongside the trail and the berry bushes were bright red. The lake was sparkling in the sun and offered nice views of the changing larches.

After a snack, we left the crowds and headed up towards Cutthroat Pass. The views of the snow-covered mountains and the larches turning gold were spectacular and the air smelled so fresh and crisp!

There was still snow on the trail which had melted a little in the morning sun, and as the afternoon shadows grew long, it began to turn to ice. The late afternoon sun filtered through the larches, making them look even more golden.

It became very cold and windy as we approached the pass, so we decided to head back down before the sun went down behind the mountains, enjoying the warmth. A truly superb day to be in the mountains!

Yes, Roly Poly, I have been using it occasionally for over a year. I also use a 60mm lens, both made by Moment. They are fun to experiment with, but when my fingers are frozen, challenging to attach to the iPhone!
Thanks Aaron, Rich and Michael, glad you enjoyed the photos!

Thanks for the report, NancyAnn! We are going to be up around there this weekend and I was wondering what the conditions were!
You don't find yourself standing at the top of a mountain without having started out in the valley.
