Can't seem to find on the net whether it's open or not? Anyone?

Howdy. I just noticed this WTA trip report from today. They did the Chain Lakes Loop and that's accessed from Artist Point. There are photos. Doesn't look to be as snowy as in other areas. ~z

I drove in on Saturday and out on Sunday and the road was totally clear.

Here is the latest from WADOT as of Wednesday evening: https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/travel/highways-bridges/passes/artist-point/home Be careful when interpreting trip reports for Chain Lakes loop hike in regard to accessibility for Artist Point. If the road is gated at the base of Austin Pass ( about 2 miles before road end at {near} Artist Point), some people hike up or down the closed section for the loop, or simply to access Table Mountain. In other words the road might not be open even if people are hiking to or from road end Also, note that frequently the road will be gated for the season at the base of Austin Pass upon the first 'significant' snowfall. This might be two inches and even if it melts the road is generally not re-opened until the following summer. So although the road is open today, the next snowfall might easily result in the season closure. Go now.

If you call the Glacier Public Service Center ( hasn't been a ranger station in a couple of decades), the information will most likely be unavailable after hours unless they leave a recorded message. The WSDOT info is generally the most timely source.

WSDOT posted on Twitter this morning that they’re closing the road today. https://twitter.com/wsdot_north/status/1181216514742992897?s=21
