Enlightened equipment makes several quilt styles that weigh in around where you want to be. I can’t recommend them highly enough. I have 2; a 20° and a 40°. This gives me the flexibility of 4 season use. Love them!!
I have the exact same thing a 20F and 40F. I also highly recommend this setup. If you don’t backpack when it is really cold, consider a single 30F one.
How do the adjustable footboxes perform when it is cold? I like the idea of having a 'quilt' option for when it is warmer, but I would not want to have a draft at 20 degrees.
I realize this is almost half a year old, I missed the thread somehow the first time around. Wanted to comment on this part.
FF makes nice down booties. There's a removable outer "shell" that lets you walk around in camp, and puffy warm "socks" that go to bed with you. They've complemented my quilt (not sewn footbox, lies flat) very well. Also they're very comfortable, and chilly nights hanging out in camp, they take the edge off the cold. FF isn't the only company that makes something like this.
