After being poured on,from above for so long, Thursday looked to be the day to get away.
I love Surprise Lake. But for some reason this was my first trip up there this year.
I didn't think there would be any measurable snow:And there wasn't
until the last mile. Then there was about 20cms by the time we
reached the stream crossing just before the lake.
This snow was unconsolidated. And just deep enough to cover the
gaps around the rocks. As well as covering the log 'bridge' over that stream.
Needless to say we stopped there.
Still a nice outing.

Yes. About 8 inches.
I just prefer metric. So much easier to figure.
I really love the first mile (2 km)or so of that trail
The Old Growth is just so peaceful to walk through.

Well.
Since I never made it to the lake. Nor do I fish.
I can't answer that.

Wish that bridge would get fixed. Tough to get on and off it when it's wet let alone with snow I would imagine. Though you don't fish, Surprise would be a good place to start.

As I understand it. One must have patience to fish.
That just ain't one of my (many) virtues

It really isn’t one of mine either. Mountain lake fishing isn’t really the sit in a chair or log or bank, kick back and let the fish come to you venture-it can be, but I’m much more into a hunt the fish, find what they’re hitting and get after it mentality. And if they aren’t into it, you’re usually in a great spot to enjoy other aspects as well as gotten a workout in.

EXACTLY you get to see different aspects of the lake by walking around and casting a line in.

Yeah I’m increasingly fascinated by the interaction of fish and all the various things living and non-living (like ‘structure’ i.e. rocks, fallen trees) and their interactions. And, of course, my interaction with those things as I try to catch fish. Endlessly fascinating, I love just to watch fish.

I reported it a few weeks ago after an early snow and idk if the weather was the issue, but the water was muddy and I threw spoons spinners and flies at the fish and got no bites an only had 1 follow. I have heard it's good fishing so I need to try it again apparently. Tried varying retrieve speeds letting lures drop and fishes almost the entire lake. Only thing I did not try was bait.
