It is amazing and sad how little snow there is left. There is barely anything below 5000 ft and after that a lot of places have completely bare ground exposed by recent avalanches. Most rocks are open and slippery and there is not enough snow coverage to use snowshoes, but it was still fun. Snow was very wet too.

You really covered the area well. Love the Pika shots -- hard to get close enough for those most of the time.

I carry around Tamron 18-400mm lens on a crop sensor. This translates to 620mm on a full frame at the narrow end. This means every pika I take photo of is about 22 times closer than in real life smile.gif Sure, there are many disadvantages to such a lens - it is not as sharp as it could be and also quite heavy, but I really think this lens is great for taking some pika shots without bothering them by coming too close. Also pika are funny because they now seem fatter for winter smile.gif

Kitya Another great outing, you covered a lot of ground - as you often do! Thanks for sharing all your excellent photos. You mentioned "Chair Peak Lake". I'm not familiar with that one. Which lake are you referring to with that name? Thanks again for your TR!

I don't know if this is an official name, but the map from switchbacks.com uses this name for a little cool lake at these coordinates - N47.46594 W121.47429. It is between Kaleetan peak and Chair Peak, just below Melakwa pass. It is a nice lake, but very rocky - there is no vegetation around it i could see, just rocks
