The weather forecast lied to me - I somehow expected it will be rainy, so I decided I didn't want to drive far and choose a place I didn't expect much of - Roaring Ridge. Roaring Ridge is clearly visible when one drives on I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass and the opposite is true too - I-90 is visible from the summit. Other things that make Roaring Ridge a bad destination - tree covered summit, maze of power lines and logging roads, second growth forest and logging. Despite all that it somehow turned much better than expected. Instead of snowshoeing on the forest road, I decided to skip the roads most of the way and just snowshoe straight up on the rib towards the middle of the ridge. It is somewhat steep, but good snow conditions made it easy. It was sunny and cold. The views from the ridge are really nice - close by are Tinkham and Silver peaks looking impressive in winter and across the pass source lake valley is as imposing as ever. From the ridge we walk up to East Summit first (where the lookout once was) and to the West Summit next. Both summits actually have less views than the ridge itself, but there was no reason not to stop by them anyway. But best was the snow - about 8 inches of super soft cold fluffy powder on top of very hard frozen crust preventing deep sinking. Well, it was super nice on the way up. Going down was somewhat tricky smile.gif
