From Crosscut:
Methow and Tourism
What is not being said is that Covid Cases are shipped to Wenatchee when hospitalization is needed.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Here's an interesting article that appeared in the Washington Post today. (Note: Normally there is a paywall, but they are currently allowing free viewing of their Covid-19 articles.) How Fauci, 5 other health specialists deal with covid-19 risks in their everyday lives
Quote: As Americans learn to live with the coronavirus, many are struggling with decisions about which practices are safe or risky for them. The Washington Post asked six public health/infectious diseases specialists about their own behavior choices.
Questions asked are about everyday decisions around shopping, family, food, entertainment, exercise, travel, etc. ~z

That's a good article, Z. The behavior of the medical experts is a dependable gauge. In a related vein, in this episode of KUOW's "The Record", the host interviews a virologist from Columbia U. Pretty much convinced me not to get on a plane any time soon.

This Twitter thread by Dr. Feigl-Ding is worth a look at. Start at the top and read DOWN to number 30. https://twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1279749506037317634 Apparently the WHO isn't doing enough to promote this information.
Here's a great chart on risk and activities from that thread. https://twitter.com/CNR2_0_/status/1279779156679700480/photo/1 Click on the chart to enlarge it.

Yeah, my wife and I decided a while ago that we will not get on a plane for quite some time - possibly years.

Public transit update: I had to do an errand in downtown Seattle yesterday, and rode Metro b/c my truck's in the shop. Last time I rode it in early June, the bus to the UDistrict was practically empty, even w/the front of the bus being roped off to keep everyone away from the driver. I felt pretty safe.
Now, the open sections have "do not sit" signs on certain seats to maintain social distancing, but it's still not distant enough, as rows weren't alternated. The "Rapid Ride D Line" was as full as the restricted seating allowed, and I observed 4 people either not wearing masks, or not really wearing them, ie, exposing their nose. One guy w/o a mask was coughing. Needless to say, there's no way for Metro to enforce mask-wearing, nor to limit boarding if the bus is "full". I won't be riding the bus again any time soon.
I had to get from 3rd & Pike to 1st Ave. The the streets seemed nearly devoid of tourists, but plenty of local scruffs & homeless, who have taken over certain corners. The merchants must really be hurting.

Thanks for posting the links. Affirms what Dr. Osterholm at CIDRAP has been saying from the beginning: this is present not only in droplets, but also as an aerosol. Think of it as smelling the perfume counter even though you are a few aisles away from it - you're smelling the aerosols.
People, place, time and space. How many people are around, are you indoors or outdoors (hopefully there's a breeze, and I try to be upwind as much as possible), how long are you in their presence, how big is the space. This isn't perfect, but it's a helpful mantra to keep in mind to mitigate your risk.

And people are worried about picking up the virus while on the plane ... More than 1,000 TSA employees have tested positive for coronavirus
From the article: Nearly all of them are security officers who have continued to work screening passengers at airports throughout the pandemic.

on my daily trek around town I noticed an increase of out of state vehicles on the streets near the old prison which is now a museum and antique car display, along with other gift shops and western memmobelia. the state had a 14 day quarintine order for out of staters but i dont think that is getting enforced. some of them are wearing masks and some are not..I am now concerned that the local population might become infected with the virus,,,which by the way has not happened .......yet!!

People are starting to think more about ventilation of indoor spaces to clear any virus particles out quicker. Here's a Twitter post with a video demonstrating some techniques in Japan.

This looks like a work in progress. But I would definitely like to see more fans going up and windows being opened if possible in confined spaces particularly. ~z

We had 2 young men here today cleaning carpets. The windows were/are open, particularly those that create crosscurrents. Dilution is the solution to pollution . . .
