You really can't use flu as a comparison. We have vaccines for the flu which work a bit and are proven to make the flu less severe if the vaccine is for a different strain. We have no vaccine for this new virus, and unless the process is changed, a vaccine would not be approved for at least a year due to all the testing. Flu death numbers would be higher if it weren't for the vaccines. I hope science triumphs over "thoughts and prayers BS."

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Sounds like you didn't actually read the article linked by Jubble Jowls.

The article describes a scenario where the stars align perfectly, and even then doesn't explain how the vaccine would be mass produced and administered to billions of people. More realistically, the process will take years. And if it's as effective as the flu vaccine, sure it will save some lives, but nowhere near all. This virus could be with us for a long time. Personally I'm not too worried (would most likely survive infection) but I think we've only seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of the economic and social impact.

My reading was that it's a circumstance where the stars aligned perfectly already. The Israeli researchers had be using Covid virus as a test case somewhat randomly. Tweaking what they've done to the Covid-19 is a matter of weeks according to the article. In terms of the practical matters of scaling up production, well Israeli's have a pattern of doing impossible things when needed. So we will see.

I can't read the ^%$ article because it has a popup that blocks half the print. So you'll have to enlighten us on where one can get this vaccination that you seem to believe is available. Until then the following applies: It has not arrived here yet. FDA has to approve vaccines, has that happened yet? Therefore, WE have no vaccine for the corona virus.

If you are on twitter, here is a good expert to follow. https://twitter.com/DrEricDing By far the best map I have seen (I am a map kinda guy) is from John Hopkins U. Click the map image on this page to open the map. Also on this page, scroll to the bottom to read about how they collect data. https://systems.jhu.edu/research/public-health/ncov/ Latest from KOMO news. 2 WA cases diagnosed by state lab, third person being tested. https://komonews.com/news/local/two-new-cases-of-coronavirus-including-student-in-snohomish-county

I think it should read " souse.gif to your/our health". Or souse.gif to your/our health, but not Corona". And if you souse.gif souse.gif souse.gif souse.gif enough you will no longer be worried about the Corona Virus. clown.gif

It is sad to see brainwashed and ignorant people claim the virus poses no threat. The fact is that no one knows how dangerous this will prove to be. The people pushing this “hoax” stupidity have proven themselves to be liars. The person now in charge of our response says smoking doesn’t kill people, for example.

Normalcy bias I sincerely hope this turns out to be another Y2K/SARS/Bird Flu/Ebola, it all blows over and we can blame the media for overhyping and fearmongering. But in the meantime, my opinion is that it would be prudent to listen to the CDC (especially if you are elderly or otherwise immunocompromised):
Quote:
"We are asking the American public to prepare for the expectation that this might be bad," said Dr Nancy Messonnier of the National Center for Immunisation and Respiratory Diseases in a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. It's not so much a question of if this will happen in this country any more but a question of when this will happen," she said, adding: "Disruption to everyday life might be severe."
