I wonder how many of the 900 million people who live on $2 per day are going to starve to death because we shut down the global economy, maybe 5%? That would be a 45 million.

..then touch them bringing them into the store. Yes, washing may keep you protected from someone else, but it does not protect other folks from what you may be bringing.
There is another industry at work as well, that one pushing the biohazard bags already shown to be problematic.
Which science shows the anything you can use to carry items isn't a possible carrier once you touch it, breath on it, cough on it, sneeze on it, your hands, etc? This is not a rhetorical question.
I posit this is a case where one is putting other concerns ahead of not bringing possible sources of infection into stores, which is completely avoidable simply by not doing so.

Just posted today via CBS Pittsburgh. There may be good news down the road once clinical trials are successful. The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking approval from the FDA for a possible coronavirus vaccine; KDKA's Rick Dayton reports.

Politics aside, some stores around here are not accepting reusable bags. For example, PCC (normally an advocate of reuse) issued a statement to members on Mar 24: "In the interest of our community’s health and safety, we are no longer accepting reusable grocery or produce bags at checkout. We also are not allowing reusable containers in the bulk department at this time."

This doesn't answer your question, but it's a good segue.
Gov. Jay Inslee announced Tuesday that the guard units will be deployed to food banks across the state to make sure they remain stocked and operational through the coronavirus crisis.

Reusable has always been a disease vector, there is nothing political about this fact. The overall issue didn't even become political until political means were used to remove choice.

Random thought.
Bikes are great exercise. The roads are empty right now, and that means it's easy to pass people (on the sidewalk or other bikes) with 10 feet. In the city it's probably safer in virus terms than walking. They pull you into the moment too.

A new model of the coronavirus pandemic suggests that Washington state could have enough hospital capacity to weather the worst of the crisis.
The model, created by the University of Washington's Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation estimates that medical resource use will peak on April 15 across the country. For Washington state, that day will come sooner on April 11, according to the institute.

It's obviously not a guarantee, but still reason to be hopeful.
