This is an excerpt of my favorite issue of "Off Belay" magazine in August 1973. The featured climbing area that month

Thanks for posting this, Schroder. I have a 1st edition of Phil Woodhouse's book on Monte Cristo -I love all that old history stuff. Knowing the history of an area - be it geological, native use or early European settlers - always adds to the interest and appreciation when visiting.

Very cool, thanks, love the history! I need to get up that way this summer...still haven't made it to Silver Lake, you did it about 4 years ago? on one leg? So I should be good to go. wink.gif

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Brings back memories of reading that when I came across a stash of Off Belay magazines at a friends house shortly after getting into climbing. Thanks.

Interesting. It's amazing how much activity went on up there.
