Headed out for an evening hike to escape everything coronavirus related. The nice thing about working from home is that the hour I spend commuting can now be spent heading to a trailhead smile.gif On the drive in, I noticed that a large swath of forest has been clear cut just east of Gold Bar right before the big bend in the highway. That's going to catch me off guard for awhile. Opens up some views of Index, however. Arrived at the TH just after 6pm and headed up through mossy forest shortly thereafter. Felt so good to be back in the woods. A well constructed trail made for easy travel and I was up top before 7pm. Soaked in the views until dusk, then headlamped back down under a clear, starry sky. Nothing like a little bit of nature to reset and make everything feel right again. Stay safe, stay smart, and stay healthy.

Lovely pics - I haven't been up that way in a loooong time. I especially like the alpenglow shots of Mt Baring, and the one of Index/Persis immediately following. I sure need to get out of the city.

Well at least you don't have the dangerous parking situation with people walking on the highway like there was up there on Sunday

That was for Heybrook lookout, not Heybrook Ridge. Different trail. Different trailhead.

I always confuse these two. Where is trailhead for the Ridge?

It's right next to the N. Fk. Skykomish bridge into Index (south side). There's a pretty big lot.

That’s an excellent time of day to do that trail, nice pictures! I used to go up there when the trail first opened and only the locals knew about it, but not surprisingly, it’s become quite popular. It’s also fun to go up there when the ridge is snow-covered and walk east towards Heybrook Lookout under the power lines.
