Here in southeast Wisconsin we've seen an increase in trail traffic matching rising awareness of the coronavirus risks. Gyms are emptying out. People are looking for elbow room.
I was trying to figure out a quick way to connect - and ask for social distance - with oncoming hikers and runners and came up with this greeting:
Peace, love and six feet please
So far so good. Smiles, laughs and cooperation. I move over and so do they. I usually speak up when they are about 30 feet out.
Thanks Grannyhiker. I'm sure there may be someone out there with a tweak that may work better. I thought about just saying "six feet please" but thought that may not be a good beginning, might seem grumpy.
I'm pretty loud in my greeting. I want their attention, and fast. And want to remind them of the new realities.
The important thing here is gonna be to get the win. Come out on top in every encounter. Look, if someone has to move or slow down it ain't gonna be me. Just something you're gonna have to realize. See, I'm a respected authority on the trail and I'm protecting my reputation!!
Try to look intimidating!
