He’s smokin’ a cigarette that’s 9 miles long. My favorite songwriter of all time. RIP John.

Crap, one of the greats is gone. So long John, thanks for the songs.

I don't cry much any more. I did when I clicked on this thread and read the news.

"I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach. I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each."

Same here. I managed to hold it together until this morning when I saw my daughter's Skyped rendition of "Paradise." Ain't it funny how an old broken bottle looks just like a diamond ring?

This is really sad as we lose one of the greatest songwriters. Thanks for the great songs.

This is a real gem. Seth Meyers put up a video of Prine's appearance on SNL in 1976. The clip begins at 2:30:

"There are yahoos out there. It’s why we can’t have nice things." - Tom Mahood

Thanks for the link, RichP. Found a couple of my old relics. Swear I had the Sweet Revenge LP, too, and probably a cassette or two stashed somewhere. As my son pointed out about Prime Prine, "How can you have a greatest hits album that only encompasses the early 70's?"

I loved his sardonic wit and way with words. It just rolls off the tongue: "Onamatopoeia, I don't want to see ya." or "Come back to us Barbara Lewis, Hare Krishna Beauregard." What? uhh.gif A lot of songs that mentioned death, and one of my faves. smile.gif

"These are the places you will find me hiding'...These are the places I will always go." (Down in the Valley by The Head and The Heart) "Sometimes you're happy. Sometimes you cry. Half of me is ocean. Half of me is sky." (Thanks, Tom Petty)
