OK, we can't talk about trails or current adventures. And I suppose this could go on "Gear" but it fits more about operations than equipment
Any other Ham radio operators carry their radio with them while hiking?
What repeaters do you hang out on while hiking?
I'm mostly down in the SR-410 area and have tended to monitor the Grass Mountain/W7AAO repeater or the Crystal Mountain, depending on where I'm hiking. Get pretty good coverage in the Buck Creek/Skookum/Snoquera/Crystal Mountain area; Not so good in the Greenwater.
Do you ever stick on the National Calling Freq (146.520)?
Yours, Hiker John aka KI7RAW...
I don't often carry my radio. My actual Ham radio is about the size of a brick and is kind of a pain to haul around. My smaller radio is Part 90 and only has a few Ham frequencies programmed in right now. I don't know the areas covered by various repeater, so when I do have a radio with me, I usually stick to 146.52. On a number of weekend days when the weather has been decent, I've heard someone doing SOTA.
