Some have raised similar sentiments in various threads that people should not be posting reports. I think this may be unnecessarily extreme... Go ahead and poach if you must, but don't flaunt it here.
+1 up.gif Also, I would say that no one is coming here and reading a TR in order to find out whether a place is open or closed. Anyone with common sense is capable of doing their own research about whether a place is accessible, and then the choice of whether to honor the closures is up to them, regardless of whether they read about it here or not. For those lacking common sense, shutting down new TRs will accomplish nothing - unless you delete all the prior TRs ever, or maybe redact the entire internet (starting with FB and IG). cool.gif

Requests to simply shut down reports is a vision into the mindset of would be control freaks.

The ignore function is a wonderful thing I have cut BS posts to about a third of what they were by just putting one person on ignore. smile.gif

Nah, it's merely an expression of the common idea that everyone else needs controlling.

If you ceased posting you'd cut that last pesky 1/3rd.

Thanks, Tom, for keeping a level head. Clearly some are feeling particularly vulnerable right now, physically and emotionally, which is understandable.

This. I occasionally look at TR's to see about the snow level or road conditions, so it's feasible to say that people could also use the TR's to research what areas are officially open - though not double checking with the managing authority would be lazy. There are a lot of different skill levels represented here. If TR's are reports are taken as suggestions then there could be a lot more broken legs and rescues. This cabin fever can change motive a bit, but I agree that it's a slippery slope to lock an entire section. Since other sections have topic rules, consider setting rules on what forums welcome 'Rona discussion.

One possible issue with saying only legal trips, is there is a lot of gray area. You can currently legally park 100 feet before a trailhead and hike on USFS land, in fact Inslee specifically says "hiking" is essential and a suggested activity. But many people in the outdoor communities are saying it's a loop and/or wildly unethical and/or obviously not the intention to park on a forest road and hike into the woods. NWHikers would need a standard answer to whether or not USFS land is closed.

Naw. Doubt we'll be nitpicking legalities. No lawyers on the staff. Good intentions and common sense will need to be the rule.
