There's a 150 foot waterfall that blocks upstream progress along Lake Creek itself about 1/4 mile above the Baker Lake trail, and there are more falls in the next half mile upstream too, so you'd need to stay well away from the creek in the woods to get around them. Then there's the huge cliff band with 400-500 feet worth of waterfalls right below the lake where the only viable bypass appears to be going to the right, which looks like slide alder hell with a brief respite of talus. So yeah, you don't want to go up the creek.
I think you could easily go up the forested slope to the south and head toward the tarns instead of Shuksan Lake though. It at least looks like it wouldn't be scrambly, but yeah considering the flies and 3000 feet of gain in less than a mile, I can think of a lot of places that would have a better payoff to effort ratio.
