On one hand I can see why the other thread was closed. But since we are addressing an issue that directly relates to public safety, and our safety in particular if we are out there camping or hiking (as is the focus of this forum) I propose that this is an issue that requires discussion and a thread needs to remain open for that purpose. I also wonder why it took a week for this to show up here.
It takes minimal effort to find a plethora of photo/video evidence of the incident itself, and preceding events that contributed to the incident. Facebook posts, text messages and tweets from participants and instigators are readily available and hard, if not impossible, to refute.
Clallam County Sheriff's Office is investigating. *
Trees were cut illegally on Olympic National Forest lands. Federal law enforcement is investigating illegal tree cutting. *
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is investigating incident. *
Hopefully those agencies charged with investigating criminal activity and enforcement of State and Federal statutes will get the matter resolved in short order.

None of the moderators appreciate having to play whack-a-mole about political stuff. The original thread contained all the pertinent info, and there is zero here that contributes anything of value relative to "public safety". It's already spiraled into other unrelated political commentary.
