Did a late afternoon hike up to Goat Peak via the rutty dirtbike track on the NE side. Roads were pretty potholey lower down but more manageable higher up. Trail was short but steep and sweet. Great views in all directions from Summit Chief to Ellensburg to Fifes Peak. Scrambled around the rocky ridge below East Goat but didn't go up the peak itself due to exposure. Went over to the old lookout site (the actual summit) before heading down. Only company on the trail was a group of mountain bikers - otherwise, solitude. Good times
I have driven by and looked at the old Goat Mt. lookout along the Teanaway Road for 35 years. I have not been to the lookout or it's old site. A bit of history that survived the burning of old lookouts.
