Went out with Greg K. this last weekend. The forecast moved me to the east side and the trip involved lots and lots of walking! We left the Andrews Creek trailhead at 10:00am on Friday 6/19. I have never been up Andrews Creek...and it is a burned valley to many of you know. Lots of brush and small trees and burned snags. Not really pretty. When the sun it out...it is hot! This time on the trail at the old Peepsight Trail junction the logs across the trail stopped being cut. We heard they were not cut up to Andrews Pass on the Andrews Creek trail. Anyway we continued on the trail for another 4 miles of uncut section and it was annoying. At around 6300 feet we finally left the trail and went cross country up to Rock Lake--we did come across some sections of the old trail up there to Rock Lake. The cross country section was really nice up to the lake. That took a lot out of us and the temps were very warm. 13 miles. 4000 feet of gain. on Saturday 6/20 we did 6 peaks. This was the day a lot of rain was to occur on the west side. We left camp after 7:00 when it was raining during the night and we thought we would have rain. We had only one brief shower during the day--brief! The temps were low due to the cloudcover. Just to let you know, almost the entire time we were in burned forest area for this trip...except for the tops of the mountains. We left Rock Lake camp and went up Peepsight easily from the north ridge. Came down the south ridge to above Peepsight Lake and traversed around the east side of Peepsight Lake. Peepsight Lake in my opinion was the best looking lake of the trip. From the Peepsight lake we easily went up the east ridge of 7773 (Newland Point) and then down the western side to a col north of Lake 6707. From there we went up the northeast ridge of 7838 (Flaming Peak). There is a lot of ups and downs and nothing was really was notable for this section of the trip....and then we came to a Fay Pullen register that was 12 years old and dry on top of Peak 7838! Very nice! From 7838 we went down the north side to 6400 feet in the valley and then back up to the ridgeline south of Freds Mountain and followed the ridgeline all the way to Freds Mountain. Mosquitos were prevalant down in the Ashnola River valley and we never came across remnants of a trail down there. The gas was starting to run low upon reaching Freds Mountain! We came down the northeast side of Freds Mountain to 6150 feet down in the Glory Creek valley, which again, we saw no sign of a trail. We then went up a gully direct north of the northwest ridgeline up to Peak 8259 (Amos). Nice meadowy area from 7500 feet to 7800 feet on the north side of peak 8259 (Amos). From Amos it was down and up to Andrew Peak without incident. You can text if you want from Andrew Peak. Then back down to camp at Rock Lake. 10 miles 7000 feet of gain. 12.5 hours. Lots of rock hoppin and the cross country section in burned forest was not bad at all. Sunday 6/21 Next morning we got up and hiked out. The headphones were a blaring in my ears. This trail in Andrews Creek in one boring long hot trail. I can see why horse packers would like it to get to Spanish Camp. Man, was it a bore for hikers. Out by 2:00pm 13 miles. 6 hours. Total of 36 miles. I haven't done that many miles in 3 days in many many many years!

Nice job in going once again where no one else goes...Good job on avoiding all that Saturday rain. 6 peaks that day while the rest of us were getting rained on!
