Hiked into Cathedral Lakes via Andrews Creek from Thursday evening 6/18 coming out Saturday 6/20. Andrews Creek is cleared until maybe 15 minutes before the Peepsite trail junction. (~ 8 miles in). Remaining 4 miles to Andrews Pass are heavy with blowdown many of which require significant energy to bypass. Not fun. Beyond Andrews Pass travel is excellent. Spanish Camp was lush and beautiful. Snow starts at 7300’ near Remmel tarns. Upper Cathedral Lake is still frozen over with 95% coverage In basin and at least 4+’ of snow in most places. Sort of disappointing. We climbed the SE Buttress of Cathedral so went over Cathedral Pass. There is still some steep snow on east side but it should be gone in days. Looking west Peevee Pass was snow free (just barely) and Sand Ridge looked pretty wintery. Crow Lake area looked to be right at snow line. Standard route on Cathedral is largely snow free where you need it to be thankfully. Streams are pumping and bugs and other humans are currently non-existent. I imagine conditions will change fast now that we finally seem to be getting some heat. But basically it’s not quite yet summer in the eastern Pasayten.
