National Park Service charges man for riding Assateague horse
The charge stems from an incident depicted on social media that appears to show a man attempting to ride one of the horses. This instance comes a week after a horse kicked a woman after she approached the animal wielding a shovel. The woman didn't appear to be seriously injured as a result of the kick.
Visitors to Assateague are encouraged to keep their distance from the wildlife because the animals are wild, Taylor said. Guests are asked to stay at least 40 feet, or the length of a school bus, from the wild horses.
The wild horses on Assateague Island are wild, Taylor said, so they can be extremely unpredictable.
