Wondering if anyone has some insight as to the stove fuel shortage this summer. MSR is sold out of their IsoPro fuel on their website and REI does not have it in stock anywhere. Dicks Sporting Goods is sold out at its stores. Amazon is selling overpriced and undersized knockoff isobutane cans for ridiculous prices. I was able to find some JetBoil fuel cans but am wondering what the cause of this shortage is. Another example of hoarding? REI is also sold out of most freeze-dried meals, but that's less of an issue for me as I rarely use them.

Fred Meyer. Sporting Goods section.

Last week arrived at Spokane and went to REI to pick up the fuel cannister for the camp stove. Sold out. Had to call around a few different places in town and finally found a Sportman's Warehouse that still had some in stock. The REI was sold out of a LOT of stuff. I wasn't expecting that. I'm not sure if it's because manufacturing slowdown and transport disruption due to Covid19, or because thousands of yuppies who think the end of the world is near have been buying up and hording everything they can get their hands on. Thanks yuppies. Now your living rooms are full of merchandise you'll never use. Anyway, about half the shelves were empty at that REI.

So, you are insulting a whole group (yuppies) even though you admit you know nothing about why there is a shortage. And you must be too lazy to even ask REI about why the shortage. That would have been easier and more effective than complaining and speculating here.

I stopped at the Seattle REI last week to exchange a damaged quilt. Their employee said the store isn't as well stocked because they've removed some shelves to allow more social distancing and because more people are buying online right now so the items usually on the shelves are in the warehouses.

Plenty of white gas for us old timers. Going on 50 years now since my first Optimus 8R and never an issue I couldn't fix.

Most Yuppies are retired or dead by now. Perhaps you are thinking of Gen Z?

Had a similar experience, couldn’t find any at a half dozen of the usual sources. Most of the brands are just whitelabeled iso from Kovea out of Korea. Wonder if Kovea is the bottleneck.

I also buy mine at Freddy's, especially since I have a lifetime 15% discount for working there for 30 years.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
