Tomorrow between 10 PM-Midnight there is a strong likelihood of viewing the northern lights in Washington state. It might extend down to the Oregon border. The chart is the aurora forecast. The Kp-index rating of 7 is considered to be a strong geomagnetic storm. A rating of 9 (the highest) is rare, happening on average once every three years.
I've only seen one really good Aurora and that was near Whistler, BC. I believe the Kp index was seven or eight. It seems like 7 is pretty necessary in Washington and the high rating has to mesh with the darkest night skies. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov
The 27 day forecast is quite good for September 3, 4. I guess that is just the rotational period for the sun....
